Solution: when you use roles exclusively, the number of profiles per user can only be doubled by assigning a reference user:
on the Roles tab in SU01, you can specify a reference user for additional rights for dialog users.

Diagnosis
You have exceeded the technical limit for the number of profiles per user. You cannot enter more than 312 profiles in one user master record. Note that both manual profiles and profiles generated from roles are included in the calculation. There is at least one profile for a role.

Procedure
Reduce your new assignment until you have reached or moved below the maximum number of 312 profiles per user.
•Check whether you require all profiles in this master record
•You may be able to combine:
◦Multiple small roles into one role
◦Suitable groups of manual profiles to composite profiles
•Alternatively, you can switch to a reference user concept, in which users with the same authorizations inherit these from a reference user, meaning that these do not have to be stored separately in each user master record.
•Check whether you require all profiles in this master record
•You may be able to combine:
◦Multiple small roles into one role
◦Suitable groups of manual profiles to composite profiles
•Alternatively, you can switch to a reference user concept, in which users with the same authorizations inherit these from a reference user, meaning that these do not have to be stored separately in each user master record.
